SDSU COVID-19 Testing and Vaccine Programs

Student Health Services offers a range of medical services to support SDSU students, including services for COVID-19. 

Those seeking a COVID-19 vaccines and boosters should contact their medical provider or visit a local pharmacy.

Vaccination Requirement

San Diego State University requires the COVID-19 vaccination for all enrolled students as part of the university’s immunization policy. To review the university’s current requirements, please visit the SDSU Immunization website. Students may request a medical exemption or an exemption based on sincerely held religious beliefs.  

There is not presently a vaccination requirement for SDSU employees or contractors.

All SDSU community members are encouraged to stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations.  Community members who are unsure of their current vaccination status or recommendations for additional vaccination should contact their medical provider for guidance.

COVID-19 Test Locations - San Diego

San Diego State University students, faculty and staff (including auxiliary employees with RedIDs) are able to access self-administered PCR (molecular) COVID-19 test kits at the Calpulli Center during business hours at no cost. Submitted COVID-19 tests will not be analyzed if the individual is not a student or employee in SDSU’s database. 

SDSU community members can purchase rapid COVID-19 test kits at the Student Health Services Pharmacy during business hours.

COVID-19 Test Locations - Imperial Valley

  • To access no cost  testing, please follow these steps:
    Email the Imperial Valley Student Health Services (IVSHS) team at [email protected] and include your name, REDID number, and indicate that you are requesting a referral for COVID-19 testing.
  • The IVSHS team will send you a referral form and testing voucher that will allow you to access COVID-19 testing at the Calexico Wellness Center (CWC) at no cost to you.
  • To get tested, go to the CWC during their normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Follow directions to their COVID testing location, which is located at the back of their practice and call the office (760-270-9126) to advise them you have arrived for COVID testing.
  • Provide the CWC team with your referral and voucher. The team will collect your COVID-19 test and notify you of your results.

Instructions for Administering and Submitting COVID-19 Tests for Analysis

  1. TAKE THE TEST
    • Sanitize your hands open the swab packaging.
    • Insert the swab into your nose and rotate the swab around your nostril three times and then hold for 15 seconds against the inside of your nostril.
    • Repeat on the other nostril with the same swab.
    • Uncap the tube and place the swab into the vial. Be sure to insert with the swab facing down into the tube. 
    • Recap the tube, ensuring that the lid is fully tightened.
    • Note: The test must be returned within a 24 hour period.
  2. LOG ON TO HealtheConnect
    • Use your SDSU ID to log into your account and navigate to the “COVID Self-Test” tab at the top of the page.

      3. SCAN YOUR TEST

    • Scan the barcode on your test tube using your phone or type the barcode number into the text box. 
    • Once you see the barcode text in the field on HealtheConnect, ensure it matches your barcode, and then hit the “Submit” button.
    • You will then see that your test has been added with the order status of “Lab Request Made.”

    • Monitor your HealtheConnect for messages about your lab results in one to three days.

     6. SANITIZE YOUR HANDS

    • Wash your hands, or use hand sanitizer after depositing your test.

For students who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms or who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are having ongoing medical issues, Student Health Services can provide support and care. Please call us at 619-594-4325 for an appointment or telephonic consultation.
