Office of Admissions Scholarships for First-Year Students

SDSU offers a limited number of scholarships each year to qualified first-year students. Programs include:

Beatty Endowed Scholarship

Available to new transfer students from Imperial Valley College who plan to earn a teaching credential or major in a program in the College of Engineering or Fowler College of Business. Award values between $500-$1,000 each. 

de Llamas Opportunity Scholarship

For high-achieving students who graduate from Mar Vista or San Ysidro high schools. Admitted first-year students are invited to apply each spring. Scholarship award values up to $6,000 each. 

Economics Scholarship

Admitted California high-achieving students with a major in Economics may be eligible for scholarships with award amounts typically $5,000 or more per year. 

SDSU High-Achieving Scholarship

A limited number of scholarships are offered to high achieving first-year admitted California students. The scholarship application is available by invitation-only and qualified first-year applicants are notified to apply in March for award consideration. Award values usually range between $1,000-$9,000 or more per year. 

SDSU Merit Scholarship

The SDSU Merit Scholarship, SDSU’s most prestigious scholarship, is awarded to a select number of the most academically-qualified students who graduate from a local SDSU admissions-area high school and achieve a minimum 4.30 CSU calculated high school GPA. The scholarship application is available by invitation-only and qualified first-year applicants are notified in December and January if they are eligible for consideration. Awards amounts are typically $7,500 - $10,000 per year. 

Spencer Masonic Endowed Scholarship

Available to new first-year students from Chula Vista, CA. Award amounts range from $1,000 or more per year.

Presidential Scholars Program

Students accepted to our Presidential Scholars program may be eligible for a scholarship worth up to $30,000 over four years. The scholarship application is for California residents and is available by invitation-only.  Qualified first-year applicants are notified in December through March if they are eligible for consideration.

SDSU Advantage Scholarship Program and Opportunity Scholarship

The SDSU Advantage Scholarship program provides competitive, merit-based scholarships to attract and admit highly qualified non-resident students to pursue their undergraduate studies at SDSU in one of its many academic programs. As SDSU is a global university, having a strong presence of students from different geographic regions of the world benefits the university in numerous ways. Scholarships will be awarded for four years based on academic performance.

The Opportunity Scholarship is a one-time scholarship offered to non-resident students based on their merit and academic performance. These awards are competitive and will only be awarded to a select group of students.  If selected, students will be notified via email if they are eligible for the scholarship by the end of March and will be required to fill out an application on the SDSU Aztec Scholarships portal.

SDSU International First-Year Student Advantage Scholarship Program

A limited number of scholarships are offered to international first-year students with strong academic records and engagement in co-curricular activities. Weber Honors College Scholarship

The Weber Honors College awards a limited number of scholarships each year to students who apply by the deadline and are accepted into the fall cohort of the Weber Honors College. Awards amounts are typically $1,000 - $7,500 per year.
