COVID-19 Cleaning Plan
Based on a report of a confirmed case of COVID-19, appropriate action will be taken in the impacted space. Student Health Services and Facilities Services (and/or appropriate group maintaining the space) will collaborate to determine risk level and appropriate level of response per the campus response plan. These will include varying degrees of custodial and contracted cleaning and decontaminating response based on the facts of the concern. Below are guidelines to inform decision making regarding the level of cleaning response. These are guidelines only. Decisions will be based on the unique circumstances.
There are four stages of cleaning:
Level 1
This response is initiated when the exposure risk is extremely low. Treatment can be done with in-house custodial. It only requires the use of disinfectant spray and a thorough wipe down of the areas that may need to be disinfected due to a heightened concern. PPE required would be gloves and face covering and eye protection is optional.
Level 2
This response is initiated when the exposure risk is still considered low and the time spent by the individual was brief in any one location. The same methods as Level 1, and will include a fogging or electrostatic sprayer to disinfect all suspected surfaces. PPE required would be gloves, face covering (half mask or full respirator), eye protection and Tyvek suit. This service can be performed by Facilities Services or auxiliary employees based on availability of supplies, PPE and trained employees.
Level 3
This response is initiated when exposure risk is moderate. The same methods as Level 1, and will include a fogging with electrostatic sprayer and the possible use of UV light to disinfect all suspected surfaces. PPE required would be gloves, face covering (half mask or full respirator), eye protection and Tyvek suit. This will always be performed by an outside contractor.
Level 4
This response is initiated when the risk is moderate to high based on time in the space, number of cases, or other factors. It incorporates the methods of Level 1 & 2 but will require a lengthier period of time for disinfecting, may include ultraviolet light, donning and doffing of personal protection equipment, including respiratory protection. Disposal of waste marked as biohazard. This will always be performed by an outside contractor.
