Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Pell-eligible students who demonstrate the highest financial need may be considered for FSEOG, a federal grant that does not have to be repaid. To be awarded FSEOG you must
- be an undergraduate student
- receive a Pell Grant for at least one term during the award year
- have exceptional financial aid need as determined by the Financial Aid office using information you provide on your FAFSA. To meet this requirement, you must have a -1,500 Student Aid Index (SAI).

Amount
The U.S. Department of Education allocates a very limited amount of federal SEOG funding to SDSU each award year. As a result, not all eligible students will receive SEOG. Award amounts are typically $500 for the award year ($250 per term).
Apply early
To increase your chances of receiving SEOG, be sure to submit your FAFSA each year as early as possible.
How to apply
After October 1 each year, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- You will be considered automatically for FSEOG.
- You may apply for aid before being admitted to SDSU.
