Alcohol and other drugs
Are you concerned about your student's use of alcohol and other drugs? Not sure how to approach the subject, or what to say? Should you even bother?
According to a College Task Force report by the National Institutes of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the consequences of students' excessive alcohol use in college are more significant, destructive, and costly than parents my estimate.
Research has shown that open, 2-way communication between parents and their sons or daughters can greatly reduce students' heavy drinking.
While SDSU's rates of alcohol consumption are below the national average, it is important that you maintain an open dialogue with your student and that you remain a source of guidance and support.
Emotional and mental health
Counseling and Psychological Sercices (CPS) helps helps SDSU students benefit fully from their college experience by supporting their personal, social, and emotional well-being. CPS also provides consultation and referral services to students, staff, faculty and parents.
