Presidential Global Democracy Fund

In alignment with the One SDSU Community program, the Presidential Global Democracy Fund at San Diego State University is a vital initiative designed to support the creation of programming that fosters community inclusion and provides platforms for meaningful dialogue on pressing global and national issues. This micro-grant program offers funding to members of the SDSU community who are committed to organizing events, discussions, and activities that bring people together to share experiences, exchange ideas, and explore diverse perspectives.

In an era marked by complex global challenges and the upcoming national presidential elections, it is more important than ever to create spaces where our community can engage in thoughtful and respectful conversations about democracy, inclusion, and the rights and responsibilities that come with free speech.

This fund empowers our students, faculty, and staff to lead initiatives that encourage understanding, bridge divides, and uphold the university's commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all voices are heard.

By supporting programming through this fund, SDSU continues to navigate the delicate balance between fostering inclusion and respecting First Amendment rights, particularly in discussions that may be uncomfortable or divisive. The President's Fund to Enhance Global Democracy is a reflection of our dedication to nurturing a campus climate that not only welcomes diverse viewpoints but also champions the principles of democracy and community engagement in these critical times.

The SDSU Principles of Community are our guidepost and means by which we uphold our commitment to our stated value and strategic goal of diversity, equity, and inclusion in everything we do. It is through the lens of our principles of community that we will review proposals for activities and initiatives submitted by members of our campus community. The President’s Fund will prioritize initiatives that promote healthy, respectful, and safe spaces for dialogue and understanding.
