Greek Councils

Council leadership is a type of peer governance influenced by indigenous communities, based on peace and consensus, and aligned with the seventh generation principle.

Governing councils are responsible for coordinating joining processes, providing leadership opportunities, facilitating educational and social programming, holding organizations accountable to community bylaws and expectations, and advocating for the future of fraternity and sorority life.

At SDSU, each fraternity/sorority chapter is required to belong to one of the four Greek councils:

Members of USFC fraternities and sororities.

While organizations have different cultural foundings, membership is open to all!

Note: A social fraternity or sorority may impose a gender limitation as permitted by Education Code Section 66273 and Title 5, California Code of Regulations, section 41500. Council joining processes are open to all students regardless of gender identity, but each organization determines their own membership selection criteria. Students who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ are encouraged to reach out to chapters directly with any questions or to the Pierce Greek Life Center for additional support.
