Editorial Student Assistant

SDSU Strategic Communications and Public Affairs

Wage: $15/hour

Deadline: Aug. 2, 11:00 p.m. PDT

Description: General duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting and compiling background research for news and magazine articles
  • Conducting interviews for news and feature articles
  • Writing news and feature articles for SDSU NewsCenter and SDSU Magazine (long- and short-form assignments)
  • Helping to identify and resize photographs for news articles
  • Multimedia production, editing and organization of digital assets
  • Possible copy editing in a supportive role only and at the direction of the editorial leads
  • Providing general editorial support for editorial content creation and the implementation of content strategies for strategic communications
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Admission or registration as an SDSU student on at least a half-time basis
  • Writing experience — especially journalistic or narrative storytelling
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Planning and time-management skills to meet deadlines
  • Journalism, Communication or related major preferred
  • Multimedia production experience useful but not required
  • Familiarity with content management systems for site production and project management (Wordpress, Asana, etc.)

Sales and Marketing: Internship Program

SDSU Lavin Entrepreneurship Center

Wage: $15/hour

Description: The Internship Program Coordinator will lead marketing campaigns and work with local business owners and entrepreneurs to connect them to talented SDSU interns. Job duties include:

  • Work with the Lavin team to create marketing materials and utilize Salesforce and Vertical Response to attract new and existing clients and students
  • Work alongside faculty and academic staff to promote internship to students
  • Consult with entrepreneurs and business owners to obtain internship job descriptions
  • Vet student candidates to match them to the appropriate internship roles
  • Maintain and track hours of all incoming interns and intern companies
  • Update internship manual and promotional materials

Qualifications: The following candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Undergrad Senior or First-year MBA student (graduation date of May 2022)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Familiarity with Salesforce a plus
  • Any type of sales experience a plus

Policy Analyst Internship

San Diego Taxpayers Association

Wage: Unpaid

Description: The SDCTA policy analyst intern will research and develop policy briefs on such matters as state and local ballot propositions, taxation, regional transportation, public finance, performance of governmental agencies and major public works projects. By participating in substantive discussions with various agencies, interns will gain a clear understanding of the structure and process of the many layers of San Diego county governance. For those students pursuing a career in public policy/administration or government affairs, this is an invaluable opportunity to gain practical work experience.

Qualifications: The Association is seeking interns with demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and prepare cogent and well-written reports in a timely manner with minimal supervision; understanding of local issues and policy-making processes is helpful.

  • Political Science, Economics, and Math majors preferred.
  • Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 8 hours a week for 10 weeks (a commitment of two quarters or one semester is preferred).

A/V Technician

SDSU Associated Students

Wage: $15/hour

Description: Under the supervision of the Aztec Student Union Assistant Director of Operations and the general direction of the Technical Services Coordinator, the primary responsibility of the Audio-Visual Technician is to ensure audio-visual technical support for programs within the facilities are operating in accordance with guidelines established by Associated Student, San Diego State University, and the Aztec Student Union. Audio-Visual Technicians operate professional audio, lighting, and projection equipment for special events in a high-quality fashion. Audio-Visual Technicians also maintain and repair audio-visual equipment as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Performs set-up, operation, and tear-downs of professional quality sound reinforcement systems, theatrical lighting systems, film and video projection equipment, and computer hardware and networking equipment for programs occurring within any of the Aztec Student Union facilities
  • Troubleshoots and responds to audio-visual problems as they arise with appropriate solutions
  • Ensures that all proper practices are taken for the set-up and tear-down of all audio-visual equipment is done in a safe and efficient manner
  • Performs weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, annually, and as needed inspections of all audio-visual equipment as to adhere to proper preventative maintenance practices; repairs and services all pieces of audio-visual equipment as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure functions of all Aztec Student Union facilities

Welcome Desk Staff (Federal Work Study)

Description:

  1. Greet students, faculty, staff, and visitors entering PSFA 200 and joining the PARC virtual learning center Discord.
  2. Complete operational tasks as directed, including showing students how to schedule learning coaching and peer tutoring appointments and prompting students to sign in to study in PSFA 200.
  3. Follow a set semester work schedule and arrive for and finish scheduled shifts on time.
  4. Adhere to the written policies and procedures of The PARC and ensure others do as well.
  5. Complete all administrative tasks such as submitting time sheets completely, correctly, and on time.
  6. Collaborate and cooperate with others on The PARC team.
  7. Attend and participate in all scheduled staff and training meetings unless excused by a supervisor.
  8. Publicize The PARC’s programs and activities if needed by making classroom visits, distributing materials to the campus community, etc.
  9. Directly address any work-related suggestions or concerns with a supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Must be a federal work study eligible student.
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.7 for 2 semesters.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 units as an undergraduate or at least 3 units as a graduate student.

Helix Academic Support Coach

Description: Aspiring Teachers, Counselors and School Social Workers. Here is an opportunity to learn and practice research based, school day academic support. Academic Coaches practice many of the same skills and strategies as classroom teachers. Weekly staff development and skills practice is built into the schedule.

Qualifications: Helix Charter High school is a college preparatory program where students must meet the A-G UC/CSU college admissions requirement to earn a diploma. As part of our pyramid of intervention we employ Academic Coaches (AC) who facilitate student learning in our 9th grade Extended Learning program, in Upper Grade Support Labs and in Study Skills environments. Interested parties must have been out of High School for at least 2 years and 60 units of completed college credit is preferred. Competence with high school Math and Science is also preferred.
