artists painting the new mural in the University Library Addition commemorates the contribution of SDSU’s influential Black alumni.

SDSU DEDICATES MURAL COMMEMORATING BLACK ALUMNI IN LIBRARY

A new mural in the University Library Addition commemorates the contribution of SDSU’s influential Black alumni.

SDSU alumni and muralists Sabrina Davidson and Avia Ramm were selected to create the mural, which features Henrietta Goodwin, the first Black student to graduate from the university’s predecessor, the San Diego Normal School, in 1913; Shirley Weber, longtime SDSU professor and current California secretary of state; Harold “Hal” K. Brown, the university’s first black administrator who established the Afro-American Studies program in 1972 – one of the first of its type; and several other luminaries.

The mural is part of SDSU’s 125th anniversary celebration. Learn more about the artists and the featured alumni in our story in SDSU NewsCenter.
