Jennifer Imazeki, Ph.D.
Associate Vice President for Faculty and Staff Diversity

photo of jennifer imazekiDr. Jennifer Imazeki is a Senate Distinguished Professor and professor of Economics, currently serving as the associate vice president for Faculty and Staff Diversity. Her research has focused on the economics of K-12 education, including work on school finance reform, adequacy and teacher labor markets. In her previous role as CTL Director, Dr. Imazeki initiated multiple programs to promote inclusive teaching practices and to engage faculty in scholarly evaluation of their teaching. She is past-president of the CSU Faculty Development Council, representing faculty developers in the California State University system, and has been an invited keynote speaker at multiple faculty development events. As AVP for Faculty and Staff Diversity, Dr. Imazeki serves as director of the Center for Inclusive Excellence, the campus hub for professional learning and capacity building around justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. She also leads the Equity and Inclusion Councils, comprised of diversity liaisons from all campus units, and has overseen campus initiatives to diversify the faculty and to develop diversity plans for every division, college and academic school/department. Dr. Imazeki received her bachelor’s degree at Pomona College in Claremont, CA; and her master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, all in Economics.

Mary Taylor

Mary Taylor serves as the Associate Chief Diversity Officer for Outreach and Success. In her role, Mary oversees student affairs programs to include Educational Opportunity Programs, Outreach and Success, the Military and Veterans Program, the Office of Employee Engagement, as well as divisional and campus-wide inclusive conflict resolution efforts. Mary maintains a clearly demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion, both within the division as well as the greater SDSU community as evidenced through her continued leadership of the SACD Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Council, her role as a member of the SDSU Equity Council, and as a Diversity Liaison. Additionally, Mary works closely with other divisional leaders to align people, initiatives and programs in support of Black students, faculty, and staff at SDSU. Prior to her current role, Mary served as the Executive Director of the Center for Educational Partnerships Outreach and Success where she oversaw SDSU outreach and retention efforts for local students and families.

Mary has over 20 years of student services experience and a passion for student access and success. She began her career at UCSD where she served in increasingly responsible roles in Career Services, TRIO Student Support Services, and as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. In the non-profit sector, Mary has served as the Director of Reality Changers’ College Apps Academy Program and as the Interim Executive Director of the Elementary Institute of Science. In 2014, she was the recipient of the San Diego Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business Award for her work in creating and developing the College Apps Academy Program at Reality Changers and was a Janet Chrispeels Doctoral Fellow in Educational Leadership at UCSD in recognition of her work serving low income/underserved students and families.

As a scholar, Mary has a research agenda focused on educational equity and access for marginalized and underserved students, Black student success in higher education, college access, success and completion, and non-profit collaboration with educational institutions. Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UCSD, Her master’s degree in Student Affairs from SDSU, her certificate in College Admissions Advising from UCLA, and her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the UCSD/CSUSM Joint Doctoral Program.
