SDSU MEN’S BASKETBALL MAKES HISTORY!
Congratulations to the SDSU Men’s Basketball Team, which has advanced to the championship
game of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for the first time in school history!
The Aztecs will face the University of Connecticut Monday night in the title game.
Watch the game on CBS 8 or head to Viejas Arena for a special watch party.
SDSU clinched a trip to the finals in dramatic fashion, as junior guard Lamont Butler
hit a buzzer-beating shot to stun Florida Atlantic University 72-71 in the Final Four.
The Aztecs, who won the Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament titles,
opened up March Madness with wins over the College of Charleston and Furman University
before defeating top-seeded Alabama and sixth-seeded Creighton in the Sweet 16 and
Elite 8, respectively.

Charles Bell East Commons renaming April 3
SDSU will honor the late mathematician Charles B. Bell Jr. with the renaming of East
Commons on Monday, April 3.
The in-person event will begin at 3 p.m. Bell, the second Black faculty member of
San Diego State College, made a name for himself in mathematics in the United States,
Europe, Asia and Africa in a teaching career that spanned four decades. For more information

T-Shirt to Tote Earth Day Craft Event on April 21!
The Library Green Team will show you how to recycle/reuse an old t-shirt into a tote
bag.
To join the fun, bring an old t-shirt and, if possible, a pair of fabric scissors,
to the Library North Patio on Friday, April 21 between noon and 2 p.m.

GREENFEST APRIL 3-7 — BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
Join us for GreenFest 2023 as we celebrate the theme “Before it’s Too Late”
GreenFest is a weeklong series of events April 3-7 that share the importance of living a sustainable lifestyle, celebrating diversity
and promoting SDSU pride! The GreenFest Concert, headlined by R&B legend T-Pain, will take place on Friday, April 7 and will be free to all SDSU students (limited
tickets available).

CELEBRATE SWANA HERITAGE MONTH
SDSU in April is hosting the third annual Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA)
Heritage Month to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding contributions of the SWANA
community.
The Center for Intercultural Relations will host a series of events this month to increase awareness about the history, cultures, experiences, contributions
and resilience of the SWANA community. All members of the SDSU community are invited
to participate in as many programs as possible and engage in critical dialogue with
our SWANA communities at SDSU.

Get Ahead with Summer Session
Yes, you’ve still got two months of the spring semester left, but Summer Session is
right around the corner! Summer Session 2023 begins May 22, and registration opens
March 6. Get back on track to graduate on time or free up room to pursue a job, an
internship, student organizations, study abroad or other opportunities in a future
semester.

Careers in Geological & Environmental Sciences Panel
Ever thought about getting into the fields of geology or environmental sciences? Head
to the Gold Auditorium of thr BioScience Center at 10:30 am April 7 for a panel discussion
about Careers in Geological & Environmental Sciences.
The panel will introduce College of Sciences students to professionals who work in
different industries related to Geological and Environmental Sciences.The goal is
to inform students of the variety of careers in the different science-related industries.
Students will have an opportunity to network with professionals after the panel.
AS appointed position deadline April 9
Do you want to get involved with Associated Students but aren’t quite ready to campaign
for office? An appointed position might be up your alley.
Submit a resume and application to be considered for appointment to positions on the
Board of Directors, Campus Life Council, Judicial Affairs Council or the position
of Marketing and Communications Commissioner.
The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. April 9, so submit yours today by filling out
the online application.
ATTEND THE SDSU POW WOW APRIL 8!
Come celebrate Native American heritage April 8 at the annual SDSU powwow, one of
the longest running events of its kind hosted by a public university.
This event, which begins at 11 a.m. near the Native Resource Center, is open to the
public and is a partnership between the Native Resource Center, the SDSU American
Indian Studies Department, the Native American Student Alliance and the American Indian
Alumni Chapter of SDSU.

OH MY GONG! FESTIVAL, CABARET HIGHLIGHT DISCOVERY SERIES EVENTS
The Arts Alive Discovery Series has a full calendar this month.
Oh My Gong!, scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. April 16 at Smith Recital Hall, is a one-day
festival celebrating Indonesian music and performing arts and exploring the connection
between musical and cultural diversity. Also check out a panel discussion for the
event slated for 6 p.m April 10 at Smith Hall.
Also, SDSU will host a musical theater performance of “Cabaret” April 28-29 and May
2-4 at the brand new SDSU Mainstage Theatre. You can purchase tickets on the SDSU TTF School website.
Before the play, join us at 11 a.m. April 18 at Hepner Hall 130 for a panel conversation
that explores how art can depict a synthesis of cruelty and hope. Inspired by the
script and SDSU performance of Cabaret, the interdisciplinary panel includes members
of the production's creative team and members of the SDSU Antisemitism Task Force.

The Big Band Breakfast takes place from 10 a.m. to noon April 13 in the Union Courtyard.
Dean's Lecture Series returns April 6
Join us for an evening of inspiration April 6 at 5:30 p.m. for the College of Arts
and Letters’ Dean’s Lecture Series.
The guest lecturer, Kyle Whyte, is a professor at the University of Michigan whose
research centers on climate policy, environmental justice and Indigenous peoples.
The theme is “Environmental Justice Two Years Later: Lessons from the U.S.’ Largest
Ever Investment to End Environmental Racism.”

Diversity in Sciences Panel April 28
The Diversity in Sciences Careers Panel will be an opportunity for students to hear
from professionals that work in various science industries who will share their experiences
as members from underrepresented communities and how they learned to be successful
in any environment.
Students will have an opportunity to network with professionals after the panel.

Center.
Girls Halaqa: Ramadan Reflections

AFRICANA STUDIES COLLECTION GRAND OPENING
Come celebrate the long-awaited opening of the Africana Studies collection in the
University Library.
The grand opening will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. April 27 on the third floor of

Monday Night Movies: Over the Hedge
Start your school week with a free flick and lots of fun on April 24, as the Aztec
Student Union Board presents a free screening of the 2006 animated classic “Over the
Hedge.”

The SDSU Sexual Violence Task Force is pleased to support Take Back the Week in recognition
of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. During Take Back the Week, which takes place April
13-20, student organizations and campus leaders organize a variety of events related
to sexual violence prevention.

BASIC NEEDS CENTER GRAND OPENING APRIL 10
Join us from 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 10 as we celebrate our grand opening and ribbon
cutting of the Basic Needs Center, located on the 3rd floor of the Calpulli Center.
The Basic Needs Center and Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT), as well as campus
and community partners, will be present to provide an overview of the history of basic
needs services on SDSU campus, highlights of the journey the ECRT has been on to get
to today and visions for the future.
