Interim Assistant Vice President
Jennifer Rikard, Ph.D. serves as Interim Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, overseeing Well-being & Health Promotion and Counseling & Psychological Services. She has worked in higher education for over two decades, providing mental health services, and designing and implementing innovative programming to improve student success and well-being. She co-authored the eCHECKUP TO GO suite of behavior change programs (addressing the use of alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, as well as mental health screening tools, sexual violence prevention), which are widely used nationally and internationally. The Alcohol eCHECKUP TO GO is recommended by the National Institute of Alcohol and Alcoholism as a highly effective program. Her career has focused on translating research into innovative practice to create behavior change in students, supporting their movement toward healthier and safer behavior.
A licensed psychologist, Dr. Rikard obtained degrees at George Washington University and California School of Professional Psychology, and completed training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, adjunct faculty in SDSU's American Indian Studies, member of the Society for Indian Psychologists, Tsalagi Scholars, and a founding member of the Native American and Indigenous Faculty/Staff Association.
