Graduate Student Writing Tutor

SDSU Lavin Entrepreneurship Center

Wage: $17/hour

Deadline: June 30, 4:30 p.m. PDT

Description: The tutor’s role will be to consult with students on their writing and provide guidance on learning to write. Tutors will participate in tutor education (i.e. pre-service and in-service training). Tutors will be required to file brief reports on each tutoring session. Tutors will receive developmental evaluations periodically from the directors.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess the ability to perform the assigned work. Prior experience with tutoring or mentoring is highly desirable, but not required. Applicants should possess the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students and have experience with and knowledge of U.S. academic writing. Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.6 GPA.

Student Assistant (Social Media Specialist)

Wage: $15/hour

Hours: 12-20 hours per week

Description: Planning a career in social media communications, and looking to bolster your portfolio and resumé? Would a part-time job on campus help you complete an internship class?

We are looking for an experienced and creative Social Media Specialist to join our team this summer. The Social Media Specialist is responsible for creating, editing and publishing content on the ExperienceSDSU Instagram account as well as our Facebook and Twitter accounts, to grow our audience, build brand awareness and boost student engagement. This position will work closely with the Communication-Public Affairs Specialist. The social media strategist appointment is for the Summer semester. There is the possibility of a fall appointment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage our social media strategy
  • Create consistent and engaging content on ExperienceSDSU social media accounts
  • Produce digital media including casual/candid photography, simple reels/videos, animated graphics, GIFS and other designed content
  • Work with writers and designers to ensure content is informative and appropriate
  • Stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies
  • Track and report metrics to continually improve strategies.

Qualifications :

  • Thorough knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication techniques
  • Possess strong editing and production skills for reels and stories
  • Solid interpersonal skills, listening skills, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Experience with coordinating social media. Ideal candidates will be able to provide evidence of this experience through demonstration of a portfolio of past work
  • Knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to digital content and media
  • Ability to demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the university community; and establish and maintain cooperative and effective relations with university employees, students and the public
  • Ability to establish, set and meet multiple deadlines, coordinate, prioritize and complete varied tasks
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and set priorities in an often-changing environment
  • Professional demeanor and team player who demonstrates a sense of urgency, initiative, and follow-through
  • Willingness to work as required some non-standard hours including evenings and weekends, and working during campus emergencies

Policy Analyst Internship

Description: The SDCTA policy analyst intern will research and develop policy briefs on such matters as state and local ballot propositions, taxation, regional transportation, public finance, performance of governmental agencies and major public works projects. By participating in substantive discussions with various agencies, interns will gain a clear understanding of the structure and process of the many layers of San Diego county governance. Qualifications: The Association is seeking interns with demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and prepare cogent and well-written reports in a timely manner with minimal supervision; understanding of local issues and policy-making processes is helpful

  • Political Science, Economics, and Math majors preferred.
  • Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 8 hours a week for 10 weeks (a commitment of two quarters or one semester is preferred)

Community Service Officer (CSO) Program

SDSU - University Police Department

Wage: $15-18/hour

Description: The University Police Department offers currently employed Community Service Officers the opportunity to volunteer to participate in the CSO Academy. CSOs who wish to take advantage of this opportunity learn about law enforcement first-hand from police officers and professional staff. Students are exposed to a variety of learning opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Conduct regular inspections of all university property, particularly parking areas, grounds and buildings
  • Operate SDSU's Red and Black Shuttle
  • Enforce parking and permit regulations
  • Lock/unlock university buildings/facilities
  • Observe and report suspicious activity, hazardous conditions and/or criminal violations
