Job Overview:
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will find the best solutions and implementations
for the problems at hand by considering both hardware- and software-based approaches.
Ideally, you have a background in electronic hardware design and embedded firmware
or HDL development and are an enthusiastic problem solver who can learn, invent, and
execute creative solutions to drive forward difficult projects to ensure success.

What You Will Do:
- Report to a mentor who will be responsible for candidate feedback and learning— mentors will also assign tasks and projects to work closely with the teams.
- Perform electrical prototyping, schematic capture, PCB layout, and general electrical engineering work.
- Use electrical test equipment to make measurements and troubleshoot boards.
- Gain exposure to electronic assembly, PCB soldering, and wire harness assembly.
- Program microcontrollers or FPGAs and test software applications.
What You Will Need:
- Current enrollment in college (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Math, or related field).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C, C++, R, etc.) or hardware description language (e.g., Verilog, VHDL).
- First or second year circuits classes and knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals.

- Experience with analog small-signal circuit design (filters, op-amp circuits, signal conditioning) and/or power electronics designs: regulators, load drivers, supply filters, protection circuitry.
- Familiarity with RF analysis tools, such as AWR and HFSS.

Background
The WCR of the National Marine Fisheries Service includes Washington, Oregon, California,
and Idaho. The WCR implements several regulations, including the MSFCMA, ESA, MMPA,
and NEPA. The WCR ensures the productivity and sustainability of fisheries and fishing
communities through science‐based decision‐making and compliance with regulations,
and to recover and conserve protected resources including marine mammals, sea turtles,
and fish.
Description
This position will provide professional and technical support to the NOAA WCR, in
order to execute NOAA’s mission. The employee will provide policy support, program
implementation, education and outreach, regulatory and recovery coordination, and
other scientific services. The employee shall ensure all requirements and reporting
are conducted in accordance with the ESA, MSFCMA, MMPA, NEPA and other applicable
laws and regulations.
Tasks
Key tasks include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Provide HMS policy support and analysis through coordination with staff in the preparation of rulemaking packages and/or policy documents and reports.
- Provide Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) for HMS Branch work products. This entails reviewing reports, memos, analytical documents, and other written material prepared by other Branch staff to ensure technical consistency with grammar rules and Regional style guides.
- For West Coast fisheries, provide economic statistics and data interpretation suitable for various audiences.
- Coordinate with staff of the HMS Branch in preparation of Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) meetings, including preparing briefing papers, background documents and memos.
- Assist Region and Center staff on all aspects of implementing the PFMC’s draft swordfish management and monitoring plan. This may include economic and biological analysis, literature search, and report preparation.
- Engage in Committee and meeting participation as necessary to support Branch staff and to implement the PFMC’s draft swordfish management and monitoring plan.
- Provide progress updates at committee meetings.

Location: West Coast Regional Office in Long Beach, California.
Travel: Travel is anticipated and authorized for this order. Domestic travel may be required

Duties

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Incumbent works behind the secure perimeter and is in daily, routine, direct, and

and in-service correctional training involving an array of topics including certification
in first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Routine walking, standing bending
and carrying light objects are required in this position and incumbent must be able
to operate electronic and manual doors and gate.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent exercise normal safety and personal security practices required when working
in a correctional setting. Incumbent often conducts treatments as the sole corrections
representative present in treatment, but will never be alone in the clinical area.
Incumbent must strictly adhere to security regulations and procedures.
