Rincon Consultants, Inc. is looking for a Climate Intern to join our Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience Group. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to our variety of climate action and resilience services across California, which includes specialties in GHG mitigation, electrification, climate adaptation, wildfire, carbon sequestration, and urban heat. While this role offers flexible work arrangements that includes a mix of in-office and remote work, changing business needs ultimately determine level of remote-work flexibility. Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist with the preparation of Climate Action and Adaptation Plans, General Plans, Community Plans, and/or other comprehensive planning documents (through technical analyses, policy development, and/or writing for public audiences) 
  • Contribute to the preparation of Climate Change Vulnerability Assessments addressing climate risks such as extreme heat, wildfire, flooding, sea level rise and more 
  • Support the development of natural and working lands analysis and planning including carbon stock inventories and carbon sequestration analysis and using nature-based solutions 
  • Aid the development of wildfire resilience plans such as community wildfire protection plans, fireshed reports, CalVTP project-specific analysis  
  • Participate in facility GHG, energy, and water verifications and audits; help develop Verification Reports and Sampling and Verification plans 
  • Support decarbonization work including reach code development, existing buildings and new construction electrification studies, and electric vehicle feasibility studies 
  • Solve quantitative and qualitative problems utilizing various modeling programs (e.g. Rstudio, FlamMap, etc.) 
  • Conduct GHG analysis such as carbon footprinting, preparation of GHG inventories, life cycle analysis of products following established protocols and modeling tools (i.e., GREET) 
  • Conduct consolidated research for complex planning projects  
  • Create data visualizations to effectively communicate complex data and findings for public usage using various software (InDesign, DataWrapper, Canva, etc.) 
  • Develop community engagement materials such as social media posts, flyers, posters, workshop activities

Job Requirements

  • Incoming juniors, seniors, in-progress graduate college students, and those who recently graduated in Environmental Science or related fields such as Community Planning, Science Communication, Forestry, etc.   
  • Deep interest and understanding of climate action and resilience planning technical issues 
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Excel 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences 
  • Strong planning, budgeting, and organizational skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills

Position Overview:

The internship is a full time position lasting approximately mid-June through the end of July (6 weeks).  Interns are under close supervision and performance is monitored to determine qualification for advancement as opportunities arise.

The Marsh & McLennan Insurance Agency LLC Sales Intern Program is designed to prepare individuals to progress into a sales position upon graduation. Sales Interns will build the skills and knowledge needed to do so by working closely with their mentor and their mentor’s team, attending training sessions, and completing projects. Sales Interns will work in a variety of situations, at times working as members of a team and other times working alone on an assignment.

Key Responsibilities & Duties/Job Requirements

As a training position, there are similarities between all Sales Intern’s day-to-day tasks.  However, individual duties and projects are assigned and rotated to develop familiarity with the department, its functions, and Associates. 

  • Attend training sessions on the different departments within MMA and the insurance industry.
  • Assist with the research and development of sales presentations and preparations for client meetings.
  • Assist in performing day-to-day administrative duties.
  • Job shadow in meetings and client visits.
  • Demonstrate mastery of learned knowledge when performing duties such as: Researching potential sales prospects, cold calling prospects to determine interest level in discussing brokerage services, etc.

Additional Notes

Position Overview

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the General Manager, the Technical Producer is responsible for maintaining and updating the technical equipment of the KCR Live Studio & Production Studio as well as the production and finalization of all audio that KCR produces outside of individual live broadcasts and podcasts. The Technical Producer works with KCR Management and Volunteers to provide the audience with well-produced audio content in a timely manner. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties
Primary Functions

  • Produce 3-5 monthly on-air promos for such elements as underwriting, individual shows, remotes, IDs, and sweepers
  • Produce at least one pre-recorded current affairs segment per month that reflects SDSU campus. This may include News, Sports, and Entertainment shows in collaboration with on-air personalities
  • Finalize the audio editing and mixing of all KCR Media for distribution, including the above, plus podcasts and requested rebroadcasts of live shows
  • Become knowledgeable of and maintain written documentation that exists for the KCR technological environment
  • Maintain KCR’s technology, including what is needed to operate the Live and Production Studios. Makes update recommendations to the General Manager and Student Media Coordinator
  • Maintain and update the back-end and design of KCR’s website
  • Act as the technology liaison for KCR in collaboration with the Student Media Coordinator

Customer Service and Collaboration

Establishes and maintains working relationships with various University departments

Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Experience:

  • Must have minimum 1 year audio-editing experience
    • Familiarity with ProTools or Adobe Audition preferred
  • Must be comfortable with various technologies and software
    • This includes computers, hardware, audio technology, audio-editing software, and additional softwares such as the ones KCR uses to go live (OBS, Zara, et. al)
  • Minimum 1 year of audio engineering experience preferred but not required
  • Preferably involved with KCR for at least one semester

Education:
Must be a current San Diego State student enrolled in minimum 6 units.
