The Planning and Environmental Affairs Department intern will gain valuable, on-the-ground experience designing and implementing initiatives to ensure that the Airport meets its environmental sustainability commitments. The selected student will apply academic knowledge to the workplace while gaining knowledge of the aviation industry. This paid internship will last a duration of nine weeks and will be on-site on our SDCRAA campus
 
The selected student will have an opportunity to engage in collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and adaptive management in creating successful environmental programs and policies. Representative duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assist with the growth of the SAN Green Concessions Program by working with concessionaires on green practices and researching sustainable initiatives.
  2. Assist with compliance for state and local waste ordinances.
  3. Assist with implementation of zero waste initiatives including waste audits, deployment of the Zero Waste Cart, and communication around reusables in the breakrooms.
  4. Assist with the development and implementation of employee education and engagement programs (including “Lunch and Learns”).
  5. Assist with internal and external communications of sustainability information.
  6. Assist with regulatory compliance, stormwater inspections, etc.
    Assist with Integrated Pest Management data compilation and assessment.
  7. Assist with Environmental Justice initiatives including research on the local landscape and mapping project.

Required Experience:

  1. Students currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units at an accredited college may qualify.

  2. Students in their final semester or quarter, working towards an undergraduate degree at either a 2- or 4-year college or university who need less than full- time enrollment to graduate, need only be enrolled part-time in courses required for degree completion.

  3. Educational major must be related to area of interest.

Hardware Integration Engineer

NIWC - Graduate Student I - Bacteria Modeling Support Project

SDSU Research Foundation

Wage: $21.52/hour

Description: NIWC PAC is involved in a variety of research projects to ultimately support the U.S warfighter. One particular area of interest is detection and sensing within marine environments. Being able to sense hazards within the marine or aquatic environments allows personnel to assess risks and respond appropriately. NIWC Pacific, along with academic collaborators are currently developing tools to aid in understanding risk associated with diving in contaminated waters as well tools to predict potential hazards at a given forward deployment site.

The contractor shall be involved in modernizing existing hydrodynamic models to allow for integration with machine learning models and fate transport tools currently under development. The contract shall also be involved in setting up the model, running model scenarios of different harbors and assessing prediction potential. The contractor shall also participate in planning meetings and conference calls with project collaborators. No human or animal testing is expected with this effort.

Responsibilities - The student contractor shall provide analytical and technical support in the following areas:

  • Modernize hydrodynamic model utilizing Intel Fortran Compiler/Parallel Visual Studio XE to be compatible with MS Windows 10/11.

  • Calibrate newly updated hydrodynamic model with historic data to ensure proper functionality.

  • Compile/set up hydrodynamic models (different ports).

  • Test run the models to identify the needs and scope of implementation.

  • Addition of Bacterial death rates as a function of water quality parameters will be implemented into the model.

  • Simulate 1-2 scenarios for each of the harbor models, results of over 2-week (covering spring/neap tidal cycles) time series of simulated bacteria concentrations at the selected location will be stored and analyzed.

  • Performing data analysis using off-the-shelf software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, image analysis), self-written software with algorithms to be developed as needed, and other statistical packages.

  • Conducting relevant literature searches pertaining to the studies and participating in report preparation for the environmental microbe research

Qualifications:

Graduate Level 1 student(s) majoring in computational microbiology/biology, mathematics, and/or computer science with demonstrated course work/experience of college-level mathematics (e.g., Partial Differential Equation) or; Graduate Level 1 students with applicable level of on the job and/or course work experience.

REQUIRED COURSE WORK

Microbiology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology, college level mathematics, program language in Fortran and computer software experience.

POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant III

POSITION SUMMARY: The structural genomics-oriented cell biology laboratory of Dr. William E. Balch in the Department of Molecular Medicine at Scripps Research has an opening for an individual to assist in routine assays for the understanding and treatment of mono and polygenic disease. Skillsets of interest include expertise in tissue culture, biochemical tools (SDS-PAGE, ELISA, protein assay) and working knowledge of molecular techniques including transfection with plasmids/siRNA for transient protein expression in cell-based reporter systems. Knowledge of organizing and managing datasets for analysis is considered essential.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management of human tissue culture cell lines for biological assays

  • Familiarity with molecular tools including plasmid generation, transient transfection.

  • Contribute to development and application of novel multi-well assays.

  • Contribute to analyses using biochemical tools including among others protein assays, SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, ELISA based technologies

Special Event Coordinator

General Statement: The Special Events and Group Sales Coordinator supports the Fleet Mission and Visitor Experience Philosophy by supporting the efforts of the Special Events and Group Sales Manager by coordinating events and helping to promote programs held at the Fleet.

Reports to: Special Events Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

  1. Assist with special events and group sales efforts by contacting prospective visitors via telephone (leads and “cold calls”).

  2. Coordinate outside visitor events, including liaison with staff team members, caterers, rental agencies, etc. Details each meeting and/or special event needs (such as load-in/load-out times, equipment needs, set-up, themes, power requirements and other logistical requirements) and plans for them accordingly. Keeps other in-house departments, including Engineering and Guest Services, updated as to event logistics. Works on-site with the Frontline Departments including MOD’s, Special Event Volunteers, Senior Retail Manager, Café team and other department managers to execute paid and in-house events as needed to ensure that all aspects of the meeting and/or special event go smoothly.

  3. Responsible for maintaining adequate communication about upcoming meeting and/or special event with the Frontline Departments (Reception, MOD’s, Theater, Ticket Counter, Store, Café, Marketing, etc.) by attending the weekly Operations Department meetings and through other means of communication as needed.

  4. Responsible for the booking of the Theater, Science Center, Lecture Hall, Community Forum, for private screenings, parties, lectures, and other functions, including initial contact with the visitor, quoting prices, catering and insurance requirements.

  5. Work to increase meeting and/or special event and group sale revenues under the direction of the Special Events and Group Sales Manager.

  6. Responsible for performing site visits and visitor/vendor walk-throughs prior to the event by meeting with and giving tours to potential visitors, caterers and vendors concerning sell-outs and other special events as needed.

  7. Responsible for ensuring the data in the Master Calendar regarding upcoming events is always up-to-date and contains the most accurate and thorough information available at that time.

  8. Regularly contact previous customers to encourage future bookings.

  9. Acts as the Special Events lead and primary contact for the Special Events department in the absence of the Special Events Manager.

  10. Execute and enforce all Special Events standards as established under the leadership of the Special Events Manager.

  11. Maintain visitor list using our in-house computerized database. Regularly contacts previous and potential clients to encourage future bookings.

  12. Serve as on-site representative for group visits, responsible for reservation, check in, and orientation.

  13. Responsible for invoicing clients and following up on past due invoices.

  16. Supports other department functions as requested by Special Events Manager.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.

JOB SUMMARY

  • The Sales Support Coordinator role is primarily responsible for supporting all aspects of G|M Business Interiors’ sales operations as it relates to account and project management administration. 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Actively engage with team members and clients at all levels of project and account administration.

  • Serve as a telephone operator, directing incoming phone calls promptly & efficiently.

  • Take initiative to produce quick quotes, answer questions and process requests.

  • Manage numerous projects simultaneously at varying stages of the project cycle.

  • Make site assessment and draft specific documentation following client meetings to support account/project throughput.

  • Assist Sales team in preparation for initial client meetings.

  • Assist with bid committee activities.

  • Create cohesive and detailed quote packages to present to clients.

  • Detail specifications along with Sales team and team Designer(s) to fulfill client wishes.

  • Work with manufacturers, Project Management and Designer(s) in preparing deliverables.

  • Use knowledge of G|M Business Interiors and industry procedures when facilitating workflow.

  • Answer urgent order clarifications to ensure orders are expedited.

  • Conduct Monday Morning meetings with Sales team.

  • Check punch lists and expedite orders and solutions as efficiently as possible.

  • Prepare documentation and action plan for deployment of G|M Business Interiors client facing technology.

  • Understand and competently navigate G|M technology platforms.

  • Demonstrate client gratitude by coordinating project completion gifts and thank you cards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma, or GED.

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, business, communications, or marketing is highly preferred.

  •  3-5 years previous experience in a business environment with a customer service focus.

  • Highly proficient computer skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with customers via email and phone.

  • Acute attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple simultaneous deadlines.

  • Strong organizational, research, follow-up, and time management skills.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently as well as contribute as part of a team
