If you’re reading this, you’re in the home stretch of the fall semester, which means it’s… finals time!

Finals week is Dec. 12-18, and if you’re looking for ways to beat the stress, we’ve got you covered!

Head to Montezuma Hall from 4-6 p.m., Dec. 6 for the De-Stress Fest, brought to you by the Aztec Student Union Board. Take a break, de-stress and rejuvenate with a night of food and massages, or grab finals supplies to help you prep for Finals Week. For more ASUB events, visit ASUB Events

Then, come back to Montezuma Hall from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., Dec. 8, for Aztec Night’s biannual Midnight Study Break. The theme: MSB '23: The Concert Tour.

Whether you're a headbanger, a pop lover, a hip-hop enthusiast or an indie soul fan, this event is your chance to come together and celebrate the diversity of musical genres. It's all about unity through music. Free food, games, activities and boujee giveaways!

Harm reduction vending machine available at Calpulli

SDSU is providing a range of health supplies at the new harm reduction vending machine at Calpulli Center. 

Students will be able to get Narcan and fentanyl test strips, condoms and other sexual health items, menstrual supplies and other items at the one-stop shop.

SDSU has also installed 31 opioid overdose emergency kits throughout both Imperial Valley and San Diego campuses with additional boxes being installed.  

SDSU Choir assessments in December

Do you like to sing? Feel you can more than carry a tune? 

Then audition for one of the SDSU choirs! 
Choir assessments are Dec. 13-19 in M225, which is on the second level of the music building on the side overlooking the recreation field. 

After completing your assessment, Director of Choral Studies Dr. Arian Khaefi will help guide you into the choir that's right for you.

Register Now for Spring Term

Registration for the spring 2024 term has begun. Make sure to log into my.SDSU to clear any charges or pending to-do items under your “tasks” tile prior to your registration date. 

Within a day or two after you register for your spring 2024 classes, you will see your charges on my.SDSU (under the “financial account” tile). Financial aid and scholarship disbursements will begin the week of Jan. 8, and the spring 2024 tuition and fees due date will be Jan. 12, 2024.

FAFSA and Dream Act Changes

Reminder: Big changes are coming to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-25 aid year. The Federal Student Aid (FSA) will launch the 2024-25 application in late December/January. Pay close attention to the Financial Aid Office’s FAFSA webpage and CADAA webpage regarding important information and updates.

Get Ready to Go with SDSU GO! This Spring

SDSU Go! Field Trips are back for Spring 2024, and this lineup is packed.

Movie trips, broadway plays, museum outings, a harbor cruise, the San Diego Gulls and a trip to Skateworld are just some of the excursions set for the spring - and they’re FREE!

Sign up for the H2O Impact Challenge by Dec. 18

Want to make a difference and some cash in the process? You can do both as part of the SDSU Chinyeh Hostler Social Venture Challenge. 

The goal of the annual challenge is to inspire students to identify innovative solutions to the most pressing challenges in society directly impacting our Southern California region.

This year’s theme is “H2O Impact.” Students are encouraged to identify large problems related to water and present innovative solutions that will have a lasting impact on the Southern California region resulting in a social venture. 

Oh, and there’s a $15,000 grand prize and a total of $40,000 in cash prizes. The top three finalists from SDSU will win $1,000 each.

Celebrate MLK Day with the BRC

Celebrate MLK Day with the Black Resource Center Jan. 14 in SDSU’s entry into the San Diego MLK Day Parade. 

The parade takes place at 10 a.m. and the SDSU contingent will meet at Harbor and Embarcadero at 9 a.m. for staging. 

The BRC, in connection with Streets of Hope, will also be hosting a community service project Jan. 15 in connection with MLK Day distributing food bags downtown for people in need.

SIGN UP FOR THE SDSU STUDENT SYMPOSIUM BY JAN. 24

The Jan. 24 deadline to sign up for the 17th annual SDSU Student Symposium is fast approaching! 

Undergraduate and graduate students from all majors are welcome to share their research and creative activities. The symposium will be March 1, 2024, with the awards ceremony and social event scheduled for March 2, 2024.

Work can be presented as a poster, oral presentation, exhibit or performance. Please work with a mentor to submit a summary of your work. Instructions and more information on the SDSU Student Symposium website.

ROCK OUT AT THE GREENFEST BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Come support fellow student performers as they battle it out for a chance to be the opening act at the Greenfest Concert (2024). The GreenFest Battle of the Bands is 5-7 p.m., Dec. 7 at Montezuma Hall. 

GreenFest, SDSU’s signature environmental event, is held every spring and features events that promote sustainability, diversity and school pride.

Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play 

“Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play” runs from Dec. 1-10 at the Main Stage Theatre. Written by Anne Washburn with music by Michael Friedman and directed by Jesca Prudencio. A love letter to live theater and the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages, “Mr. Burns” is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another. Purchase tickets at the PFSA ticket office.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S HOOPS HOMETSTANDS IN DECEMBER, JANUARY

The holidays are a great chance to see the SDSU Aztecs Men’s and Women’s basketball teams at the friendly confines of Viejas Arena. 

The men’s basketball team, which captured the Continental Tire Main Event championship in November, hosts UC Irvine, the University of Saint Katerine and Stanford Dec. 9, 19 and 21, respectively. Then, following a road game against perennial power Gonzaga, the team will open their Mountain West Conference slate Jan. 3 and 6 against Fresno State and UNLV. 

The women’s team completes a five-game homestand at the beginning of the month when they host Pac-12 power Stanford and Cal State Los Angeles on Dec. 1 and 4, respectively. 

They’ll return to Viejas Dec. 30 and host Colorado State at 1 p.m.

“LESSONS FROM MISTAKES,” DRI Professional Development workshop 

Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion on "Lessons from Mistakes: Professors' Early Career and Student Days" during our DRI Professional Development Days event from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6, at the Lipinsky Suite, SSW 1608.

This enriching workshop will feature distinguished panel speakers, including Dr. Catherine Schrankel, a professor in the Department of Biology; Dr. Kari Sant, a professor in the School of Public Health; and Dr. Chuyun Oh, an Associate Professor of Dance Theory. RSVP encouraged.

SPRING RSO TRAINING SESSIONS

Training sessions are complete for the RSO Officer Obligations (RSO3) Training, the Inclusive Leadership Awareness Training (ILAT), and the AS Banking Training.
If you did not complete one of the required training sessions, your org will have to wait until the spring cycle to get recognized when training is offered again.
