Tijuana & MEXICALI GRADUATIONs

The Tijuana & Mexicali graduation ceremonies are open to all graduating students and are designed to build bridges across the U.S.-México border. They provide an opportunity for graduates whose immediate family members cannot cross the border to attend SDSU's commencement to celebrate their achievement with loved ones in México.

Please note: Participating in these ceremonies does not replace or prevent students from also attending their college’s primary May commencement at SDSU-San Diego or SDSU-Imperial Valley.

FAQ

Q: Is this ceremony in Tijuana, Mexico the same as the SDSU San Diego Commencement?
A: The ceremony in Tijuana is a ceremony to celebrate the success of SDSU students graduating and whose parents are not able to attend the commencement ceremony at the San Diego Campus. The San Diego Campus, however, is a ceremony that includes conferral of degrees. Graduate students will only be hooded at the San Diego commencement ceremonies.

Q: If I attend the ceremony in Tijuana, can I also attend the San Diego campus Commencement ceremony?
A: Yes, you can attend both.

Q: How many guests can I attend?
A: Amount of tickets each graduating student will receive will depend on how many students are participating in this ceremony. Additional information will be provided at a later time. Each guest must have a ticket to enter the venue.

Q: How will I know if there are any additional tickets available?
A: This information will be provided during the mandatory orientations. Participating students can choose to attend the mandatory orientation Tuesday, April 14 from 10-11am or Wednesday, April 15 from 3-4pm. This will be a zoom meeting and details, including zoom link, will be provided to registered participants.

Q: Is there parking available at UABC?
A: Yes, parking will be available. Please see the map and directions for detailed information.

Q: Do I need to wear the SDSU Regalia (cap and gown)?
A: Yes, all participating graduates must be wearing SDSU’s regalia. Students can also wear any stoles or cords provided by programs or other departments.

Q: Will babies need a ticket?

A: If it is a baby that will not be occupying a seat, they can attend without a ticket. But please make sure that they are in someone's lap so that they do not take the seat of another guest. We are at full capacity. Thank you for your understanding.
