Aztec Adventures Assistant

SDSU Associated Students

Wage: $15/hour

Description: Under the direct supervision of the Climbing Program and Team Building Supervisor and the Aztec Adventures Program Assistant, the Aztec Adventures Assistant will assist with the climbing wall supervision during open recreation hours, lead safety orientation clinics, teach skills clinics, complete route setting, maintain safe climbing/ropes course environments, and facilitate enjoyable and safe team building activities, including low and high challenge course programs. Additional roles include program planning, trip facilitation, routine maintenance, and conducting skill/safety/risk assessments. The Aztec Adventures Assistant should possess the ability to work independently and as a team member interacting with a diverse population of Aztec Recreation members and staff.

Qualifications - These are the minimum requirements for the position:

  • Must be currently enrolled at San Diego State University, taking a minimum of 6 units
  • Ability to comfortably educate participants on the skills used at the climbing wall, challenge course, and on trips 
  • Ability to facilitate small group activities for groups 8 – 15 in size 
  • Knowledgeable on or about what Aztec Recreation and Aztec Adventures programs offer 
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED certifications are required (or ability to obtain prior to position start date) 
  • Must complete Gender Awareness and Computer Security trainings within 30 days of hire 
    Preferred Experience: 
  • Passing of course or test in a wilderness certification (WFA, WFR, WEMT, SPI, ACA, CWI, etc.) 
  • Previous work experience with group facilitation, ropes courses, outdoors climbing, and indoor climbing 
  • Knowledge of belay techniques, climbing/challenge course equipment, and rope management 
  • Previous experience leading outdoor trips 
  • Knowledgeable in the fields of backpacking, climbing, camping, hiking, biking, and/or paddling

Facilities Assistant

Description: Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Facilities Assistant is responsible for reviewing the IA Complex calendar of events and coordinating logistical set up and break down of events held at the ISC which includes the set-up and break down of equipment, assisting guest and hosts with equipment as needed, remaining available during events for assistance and building security purposes, and is required to arrive and set-up the facility at least 30 minutes prior to event. After each event, the Facilities Assistant will perform a general cleaning of the facility (tables, chairs, walls, counters, fixtures, appliances, lobby, kitchen, floors, vacuum, patio, empty trash, and all other general areas as needed) and re-set the facility to its standard set-up, unless facility needs to be set up for another event. The Facilities Assistant attire must be appropriate for the event being monitored. The Facilities Assistant will work varied hours and must have a flexible schedule. The Facilities Assistant must be responsible as they will have access to the ISC facility.

Audit Intern

Description: Our interns become active members of our accounting teams. They work closely with our professionals to complete tax and/or audit engagements. Our internship program helps to provide the fundamentals of public accounting, specific to either audit or tax. Our internship program is designed for juniors, seniors, and those in their Master's programs. We provide a winter internship where students can participate while in school, and we provide a summer internship for those students that are not attending school near any of our offices. Both internship periods are approximately 12 weeks in duration. The beginning and ending dates of the programs are designed to accommodate school schedules.

A/V Technician

Description: Under the supervision of the Aztec Student Union Assistant Director of Operations and the general direction of the Technical Services Coordinator, the primary responsibility of the Audio-Visual Technician is to ensure audio-visual technical support for programs within the facilities are operating in accordance with guidelines established by Associated Student, San Diego State University, and the Aztec Student Union. Audio-Visual Technicians operate professional audio, lighting, and projection equipment for special events in a high-quality fashion. Audio-Visual Technicians also maintain and repair audio-visual equipment as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Performs set-up, operation, and tear-downs of professional quality sound reinforcement systems, theatrical lighting systems, film and video projection equipment, and computer hardware and networking equipment for programs occurring within any of the Aztec Student Union facilities
  • Troubleshoots and responds to audio-visual problems as they arise with appropriate solutions
  • Ensures that all proper practices are taken for the set-up and tear-down of all audio-visual equipment is done in a safe and efficient manner
  • Performs weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, annually, and as needed inspections of all audio-visual equipment as to adhere to proper preventative maintenance practices; repairs and services all pieces of audio-visual equipment as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure functions of all Aztec Student Union facilities

Welcome Desk Staff (Federal Work Study)

Description:

  1. Greet students, faculty, staff, and visitors entering PSFA 200 and joining the PARC virtual learning center Discord.
  2. Complete operational tasks as directed, including showing students how to schedule learning coaching and peer tutoring appointments and prompting students to sign in to study in PSFA 200.
  3. Follow a set semester work schedule and arrive for and finish scheduled shifts on time.
  4. Adhere to the written policies and procedures of The PARC and ensure others do as well.
  5. Complete all administrative tasks such as submitting time sheets completely, correctly, and on time.
  6. Collaborate and cooperate with others on The PARC team.
  7. Attend and participate in all scheduled staff and training meetings unless excused by a supervisor.

Helix Academic Support Coach

Description: Aspiring Teachers, Counselors and School Social Workers. Here is an opportunity to learn and practice research based, school day academic support. Academic Coaches practice many of the same skills and strategies as classroom teachers. Weekly staff development and skills practice is built into the schedule.

Qualifications: Helix Charter High school is a college preparatory program where students must meet the A-G UC/CSU college admissions requirement to earn a diploma. As part of our pyramid of intervention we employ Academic Coaches (AC) who facilitate student learning in our 9th grade Extended Learning program, in Upper Grade Support Labs and in Study Skills environments. Interested parties must have been out of High School for at least 2 years and 60 units of completed college credit is preferred. Competence with high school Math and Science is also preferred.
