Mental Health with Mario is a series where graduate students come together to discuss mental health and social well-being in a supportive environment. Through open conversations, students share experiences and connect with peers. After the discussion, unwind with a friendly game of Mario, enjoy lunch, and build community while destressing. Topics will vary by session.

Session #1: Understanding Imposter Syndrome
Graduate school can introduce new challenges and expectations. In this session, together we unpack the concept of the “impostor phenomenon” and how to break through the cycle and own that you belong in the room. We'll discuss how to recognize it and to reframe your thinking.

Session #2: Culture & Community of Grad School
Starting graduate school is more than an academic transition—it’s an opportunity to find your community, understand the culture of graduate education, and build meaningful connections. This session will explore what graduate school culture looks like, how to navigate different expectations and environments, and ways to develop a sense of belonging. Participants will discuss strategies for building supportive relationships with fellow graduate students, faculty, advisors, and mentors.

Calli Kitchen is a FREE cooking class program for students from the Well-being and Health Promotion Department at San Diego State. SIGN-UP IS REQUIRED!
"Calli" is the Aztec (Nahuatl) word for "home" or "community," as the program teaches food preparation skills you can use at home while facilitating folks to meet new friends and build community.
