COMMENCEMENT 2023 IS HERE!
Congratulations to the San Diego State University Class of 2023! This month, we celebrate
your accomplishments at Commencement from May 12-14 at Viejas Arena for San Diego
campus students.
Graduation season concludes at the SDSU Imperial Valley Campus on May 16 at 7 p.m.
on the Rollie Carrillo Quad.

families and guests.
Graduates, please take a second to fill out the SDSU Outcomes Survey beginning May 2! Your feedback will give you a chance to have your voice heard and

Origami workshop on May 3!
Join us at the SDSU Chinese Cultural Center from 1-2 p.m. May 3 for a fun introduction
to the world of origami!
Instructor Brianna O’Boyle will lead the workshop.

Ellen Ochoa West Commons renaming May 5
SDSU will honor veteran astronaut Ellen Ochoa with the renaming of West Commons to
the Dr. Ellen Ochoas Pavillion in her honor on Friday, May 5.
The in- person event will begin at 11 a.m. Ochoa, an SDSU alumna, was the first hispanic
female astronaut and former director of NASA's Johnson Space Center. The space’s new
name will be Dr. Ellen Ochoa Pavilion. Read more on NewsCenter about the renaming.
Student input needed in Climate Action Plan update!
The Office of Energy & Sustainability is currently drafting an update to SDSU’s 2017
Climate Action Plan and is inviting all SDSU faculty, students, staff and alumni to
complete a 5-minute poll.
Your input about current and completed climate actions, such as conservation measures
to lower building energy use, reduce vehicle miles traveled and to eliminate waste,
is valuable. SDSU Climate Action Plan Update Poll will be open through May 31.

Self-Care Expo on May 3!
Need to relax and unwind from finals season? The URC and EOPOS Learning Support Center
will equip the EOP Learning Support Center (Student Services East 2109) with self-care
stations from noon to 2 p.m. May 3.

Fuel up for finals week at CIR!
Finals Week is approaching! Your health is equally important as your exams, so pick
up some free snacks to fuel up at the CIR from Noon to 4 p.m. May 1-5.
The CIR will provide an assortment of free snacks, fidget toys and test materials
in the CIR Living Room, Student Union 250. We hope to see you soon!
CELEBRATE APIDA HERITAGE MONTH
May is Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month, which serves as a national
celebration of the history, contributions and achievements of the APIDA communities.
APIDA Heritage Month was designated to commemorate the first Japanese immigration
to the United States on May 7, 1853, while also honoring the Chinese immigrants who
worked to complete the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.
Come celebrate the month with the APIDA Resource Center, which will have a slate of
events to celebrate the month including an APIDA Graduation Celebration held from
5-8 p.m. May 3 at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Courtyard, and the popular
Makers’ Market from 1-6 p.m. May 4, also in the Student Union Courtyard.

SPRING SPORTS WRAP UP CONFERENCE PLAY
Come support your Aztec spring athletics teams as they wind down conference schedules
and prepare for their conference tournaments and championships. Check out Goaztecs.com for schedule and ticket information for baseball, softball and women’s track and
field.
Also, a huge congratulations to the Men’s Golf team for capturing their second straight
Mountain West Conference championship and to SDSU pitcher TJ Fondtain, who recorded
the eighth no-hitter in the baseball program’s history in a 4-0 win over Nevada on

Apply for Aztec Scholarships
Apply for hundreds of scholarships with a single application! The general application
for Aztec Scholarships opened on April 10 and is open through Aug. 25 for awards in
the 2023-24 academic year.
Submit your application today! New students must submit their intent to enroll to gain access to the Aztec Scholarship
portal.
Emerging Filmmakers Showcase May 9-10!
Come see the future of filmmaking at the Emerging Filmmakers Showcase May 9-10 at
the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Theatre.
The event features the best films produced by students in the School of Theatre, Television
and Film and will include two distinct lineups of short narratives and documentary
films.

Digital Humanities Showcase May 5
Join the Digital Humanities Center and and Digital Humanities Initiative for the annual digital humanities showcase, a celebration of all the digital work
created/in process this year.
The showcase will be held from 10 a.m. to noon May 5 in the Digital Humanities Center,
LA 61 (bottom of the Library Dome).
Engineering Design Day is May 3!
The Spring 2023 Engineering Design Day is May 3! This free event will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Montezuma Hall and
will showcase over 80 projects from our senior design classes in aerospace, civil,
construction and environmental, electrical and computer and mechanical engineering
majors.
SDSU Alumni will also have a table at the event with resources to get connected to
the engineering alumni community.

registration information. Log into my.SDSU to clear any charges or pending to-do items under your “Tasks” tile prior to your

Crossing the Line exhibit ends May 4
Crossing the Line features the artwork of 29 artists, current faculty and alumni of
the School of Art and Design, whose work considers the notion of boundaries and borders.
The exhibit, which has been on display at the University Art Gallery since March 7,
ends May 4.

Community Graduation Celebrations this month!
Join us in celebrating our graduates from different communities. At SDSU, our diversity
gives us power and benefits every single member of our community.
The community graduations in May include the Lavender Graduation, APIDA Graduation
and Transborder Graduation ceremonies on May 3, the Latinx Graduation and Native Graduation
ceremonies on May 5 and Black Baccalaureate on May 11. Guardian Scholars, Jewish and
EOPOS graduation ceremonies occurred last month.

Live Well on Wheels
The County of San Diego is hosting the Live Well on Wheels Bus at the top of Campanile Walkway from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3. Students can stop by and meet with staff from SD County to get help enrolling in CalFresh, Medi-Cal, CalWorks, and other Self-Sufficiency Programs.
RSO Application Cycle
Recognized Student Organization Application Renewal is underway! RSO’s are required to submit completed applications in order to be reviewed and become recognized for the next academic year (2023-2024). Required training sessions will be offered throughout the summer. Email [email protected] for questions.
"SHAC" up this fall: Join the Student Health Advisory Committee
Become a health and wellness advocate for SDSU students by joining the Student Health
Advisory Committee. SHAC members advise the departments of Student Health Services,
Counseling & Psychological Services, and Well-being & Health Promotion on their services,
make recommendations on policy and programming, and give voice to the needs and perspectives
of the student body!
SHAC is open to all SDSU students and there are no dues or fees required. Please complete the SHAC interest form by May 19 to be notified about meetings for Fall 2023 and/or apply for open officer
positions.
