Congrats Graduates!
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! May is the month we celebrate your accomplishments at Commencement from May 10-12 at Viejas Arena for San Diego Campus students.
We will celebrate our Imperial Valley Campus graduates May 9 at 7 p.m. on the Rollie Carrilllo Quad.
Find everything you need to know about the various Commencement exercises on the Commencement website, including how to get tickets, where to buy your cap and gown and information for families and guests.
SDSU’s community centers will host graduation celebrations for their respective student groups. The Commencement page includes dates, times, locations and RSVP information for the community center graduation ceremonies.
Graduates, please take a second to fill out the SDSU Outcomes Survey! Your feedback will give you a chance to have your voice heard and help future Aztec grads.

Aztec Scholarships App Window Open
The application period for 2024-25 Aztec Scholarships is now open. Apply any time before Aug. 30.
Current students should apply ASAP to be eligible for the highest number of scholarships — one app is all you need to reach them all!
This academic year, SDSU awarded more than 2,250 scholarships totaling more than $5.7 million to students — 99.9% of the scholarship funds available.
If you’re an incoming student who submitted intent after April 5, apply before the Aug. 2 early-action deadline.
Take the Transportation Survey for a Chance to Win a $50 Gift Card
Students, we are looking for your input on the 2024 SDSU transportation survey, which will help the university improve transportation services and inform SDSU’s climate action planning.
Take the 10-minute survey, which is accessible from your mobile device, and have the option of being entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of 40 $50 gift cards.

Celebrate APIDA Heritage Month at SDSU!
May is Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month, which serves as a national celebration of the history, contributions and achievements of the APIDA communities. APIDA Heritage Month was designated to commemorate the first Japanese immigration to the United States on May 7, 1853, while also honoring the Chinese immigrants who worked to complete the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.
Among the highlights of the month long celebration are:
- The APIDA Graduation and End-of-Year-Celebration and After Party, which will be held 5-10 p.m. May 2 in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Goldberg Courtyard
- The inaugural APIDA Conference with San Diego City College from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 3 in Tula Community Center.
- Guest lecturer Ny Nourn, a Cambodian American social justice advocate, will speak from 3-4 p.m. May 5 via Zoom.

Aztec Nights Midnight Study Break is May 2!
Dive into a world of excitement at Midnight Study Break from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. May 2 in Montezuma Hall. We are getting ready to soak up the sun and dive into an ocean of activities!
We will also be featuring Shake Shack and Shake Smart smoothies! Vegan options will be available. From exciting games to a limbo competition, summer-themed snacks and $2,000+ worth of giveaways, our summer fun event promises to ease your stress about finals and take a break to relish in all your favorite summer food and activities.

Need a break from the pre-finals grind? Join us for Refuels & Melodies: Finals Remedies on Wednesday, May 1, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Goldberg Courtyard!
Enjoy complimentary coffee, pastries and a live harp performance while you recharge and refocus. It's the perfect opportunity to de-stress, study and find your groove before hitting the books. Don't miss out on this soothing experience before the chaos of finals week!
Take A Study Break In The Library
During Finals Week
The University Library wants to help with finals. So the library will be open around the clock starting on May 2 and ending at midnight on May 9. It’s always a good idea to check the website for hours though, just in case there is an emergency.
While you are there, stop by the study break table on the first floor for a snack (while supplies last), a coloring project or a game to borrow. And visit with Luna, the SDSU therapy dog, on Thursday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. and Monday, May 6 at 1 p.m.
If you need help with those last-minute projects, your librarians are ready to help! Visit the website to chat at any time, day or night. Don’t forget those self-care steps like drinking plenty of water, taking stretch breaks and finding time to laugh with a friend. The faculty and staff at the library wish you well on your finals!

Engineering Design Day is May 1!
SDSU’s College of Engineering 2024 Design Day is 1-4 p.m. May 1 at Viejas Arena.
Design Day is the largest College of Engineering annual event, and this year we’re taking it to the next level at Viejas Arena. Join us for a showcase of the exciting, innovative design projects our undergraduate engineering students conceive, design and build during the academic year.

SDSU Emerging Filmmakers Showcase May 7-9
Come see the future of filmmaking at the Emerging Filmmakers Showcase May 7-9 at the Main Stage Theatre.
The event features the best films produced by students in the School of Theatre, Television and Film. Spread across three nights, the event features three distinct lineups of short narrative and documentary films.

Digital Humanities Showcase on May 3
The Digital Humanities Showcase is a celebratory exhibition of the creative-critical digital work at SDSU. Members of the SDSU community will be sharing their works at any stage of development, from initial design to completed project.
This year's annual Digital Humanities Showcase and Electronic Literature Competition will be held from 10 a.m.-noon May 3 in the Digital Humanities Center, LA 61 (bottom of the Library Dome).

The 2024-25 FAFSA and Dream Act applications are open. The priority deadline has been extended to May 2. Apply now! You can still apply!

Luna the therapy dog has had so much fun this spring participating in The Pride Center’s collaboration with Counseling & Psychological Services, Lounge with Luna!
You can spend time with Luna one more time from 11 a.m.- noon May 2 at The Pride Center. Come take a break from studying for finals and hang out and pet Luna and/or connect with a queer-friendly therapist from Counseling & Psychological Services.
Three Exceptional Students Receive Lowell Burnett Family Scholarship
The Lowell Burnett Endowed Award in Physics historically is awarded to one undergraduate or graduate student a year.
This year, the foundation — eponymously named after the late longtime SDSU physics professor — awarded the $10,000 scholarship to three exceptional students.

SDSU Celebrates Juneteenth
The SDSU community proudly celebrates Juneteenth, the holiday that marks the end of slavery.
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to inform its enslaved residents of the Emancipation Proclamation and the abolition of slavery nationwide.
SDSU will host its third annual campus celebration this summer, with details to be announced in coming weeks by the Black Resource Center. Check out this Newscenter story on last year’s festivities.
“Primadonna” Screening on May 2
The Italian Program in the Department of European Studies and the San Diego Italian Film Festival present a free screening of the film “Primadonna (The Girl from Tomorrow)” at 5 p.m. May 2 at the Language Acquisition Resource Center (Storm Hall 205).
The film tells the story of a young woman who reacts to violence with an act of rebellion that blows apart the social conventions of the time and the rules of the mafia.

SISSTER, FratMANers Open for Enrollment
Become an advocate to decrease sexual violence. The FratMANers and SISSTER peer health education programs raise awareness about sexual violence and its prevention.
If you are a member of a campus fraternity or sorority and have earned – or are earning concurrently – 40 units, you can earn up to two (SISSTER) or three (FratMANers) units while developing leadership skills and learning about topics that matter.

Summer Session Registration Underway
Get back on track to graduate on time or free up room to pursue a job, an internship, student organizations, study abroad or other opportunities in a future semester.
Classes begin May 20. Visit the Summer Session website for more information, including class schedules, summer session fees and registration information. Log in to my.SDSU to clear any charges or pending to-do items under your “Tasks” tile prior to your registration.
Also visit the Cal Coast Student Financial Center for information on how to apply for financial aid available for summer session. Reminder: You must meet satisfactory academic progress requirements to enroll.

Nine San Diego State University students have received the 2024 Quest for the Best award, recognizing high-achieving SDSU students for outstanding performance in academics and community service.
The annual Quest for the Best Vice Presidential Student Service Award has celebrated student achievement for three decades in four key areas: academic excellence, student service and activities, community service and leadership development.
