Time: 11:40 a.m. - 12:25 p.m.
Location: Pride Suite
Department/Organization: Project Rebound
Getting admitted to a university is a major accomplishment—but admission is only the beginning. Universities have an unwritten “hidden curriculum”: how to build relationships with faculty and staff, ask for help, find opportunities, understand who makes decisions, advocate for yourself, recover when something goes wrong, and develop a network of people who can help you reach your goals.
For transfer students, there is often less time to figure these systems out. This interactive workshop will help Black transfer students identify the people, resources, relationships, and strategies they need to move from simply attending the university to fully navigating and benefiting from it. Participants will leave with a personalized University Navigation Map identifying their academic, personal, professional, and community support networks and specific actions they can take during their first semester.
