AZTEC NIGHTS FUN!
Winter break is officially over, and while that means it’s back to the books, it also means it’s time for some more great FREE fun courtesy of Aztec Nights!
Head to Aztec Recreation Center from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Jan. 19 for a night of arcade games, mini-golf and archery tag. Fueling the fun: free Shake Smart smoothies, as well as wraps and bowls.
Then, rest up and get yourself to Montezuma Hall at 9 p.m. the next evening, Jan. 20, for “Dungeons and Drag Queenz,” a magically medieval night of dragtastic runway flair, tavern-inspired food and giveaways!
And wrap up January with another edition of “SDSU’s Got Talent” from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Jan. 27 at Montezuma Hall. Cheer on your fellow students in their incredible performances while you enjoy free empanadas, cotton candy, popcorn and boba!

FAFSA and Dream Act Apps Open
The 2024-25 FAFSA and Dream Act applications are now open! Apply now! To maximize your chances for possible aid, the priority deadline is April 2.
The FAFSA application has big changes for the 2024-25 aid year. If you have questions about either app, visit the Financial Aid Office’s FAFSA webpage and CADAA web page.
Visit the Cal Coast Student Financial Center’s Virtual Coffee Hour page for a recorded webinar on FAFSA simplification. The center will continue to hold webinars on FAFSA changes, so check the Cal Coast Student Financial Center website for dates and times.
Basic Needs Center Open House
Current SDSU students can connect with food, housing and financial resources during the Basic Needs Center open house, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 1 on the third floor of Calpulli Center. There will be free pizza and a drawing for a free Hydro Flask!

Sophomore Week is back with fun, educational and celebratory events during the week of Feb. 12-16.

CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH AT SDSU
February is Black History Month, and SDSU has a loaded calendar of events to celebrate African Americans and their contributions.
This year, the Black Resource Center’s celebration of Black History Month will focus on the importance of African American art, which is infused with African, Caribbean and Black American lived experience, and examine the varied history and life of African American art and artisans.

NRC Hosts
Campus Events
Join the Native Resource Center for two events in January and February.
It will host a “Welcome Back Event” 2-4 p.m. Jan. 26 at Aztec Lanes. All are welcome as a way to ring in the new year and semester with the Native and Indigenous community at SDSU.
The NRC will also host its fourth annual Native & Indigenous Research & Arts Symposium at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at Scripps Cottage. NIRAS is an academic space to uplift diverse Native and Indigenous research, narratives, art, issues and knowledge, and aims to center Native and Indigenous epistemological and methodological frameworks that are otherwise ignored within dominant Western academic settings. Submissions to present accepted until Feb. 2.

Valentine's Day Film Festival
If you love love (or love to hate love), this evening of short films is for you! Join us at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Main Stage Theatre for a night of romantic films by SDSU student filmmakers for Valentine’s Day.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the School of Theatre, Television and Film website.
STUDENT SYMPOSIUM DEADLINE NEARLY HERE
The Jan. 24 deadline to sign up for the 17th annual SDSU Student Symposium is fast approaching!
Undergraduate and graduate students from all majors are welcome to share their research and creative activities. The symposium will be March 1, with the awards ceremony and social event scheduled for March 2.
Work can be presented as a poster, oral presentation, exhibit or performance. Please work with a mentor to submit a summary of your work. For instructions and more information, visit the SDSU Student Symposium website.
LAB COAT PILOT PROGRAM
In partnership with SDSU’s Department of Environment, Health and Safety, the College of Sciences is piloting a lab coat dispensing program to provide College of Sciences faculty, staff and student researchers with clean lab coats at no cost.
It helps promote safe and productive working environments for all researchers. Lab coat “vending machines” are located in the Chemical Sciences Laboratory 3rd floor breezeway and the Hardy Tower/PSFA breezeway.
Eligible College of Sciences researchers should fill out the Lab Coat Registration Form. Upon completion, those eligible will be notified via email when their SDSU card has been granted access to check out and return lab coats. For more, visit the Lab Coat Program website.
Funds Available
for Undergrad Travel, Projects
The Division of Research and Innovation has limited funds available to support undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activities in the spring semester.
Funds are available for every college and will be awarded on a rolling basis until exhausted.
Only one RSCA Travel or Material Fund Form may be completed by an SDSU mentor (tenured/tenured track faculty, research professors, and lecturers).
SafeZones Launches New Curriculum
SafeZones has an updated curriculum covering topics of terminology, sex and gender, pronouns, sexual and romantic orientations, axes of oppression, action steps and more!
Virtual and in-person training will be available, and registration will open early in the spring semester. The Pride Center’s Instagram and future newsletters will have more information about specific programming.
Pride Center Marks 10th Anniversary
The Pride Center is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with an open house from 3-5:30 p.m. Jan. 31. It will highlight the past, present and future of SDSU’s 2SLGBTQIA+ resource center.

BASKETBALL IS BACK AND IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
The Aztecs men’s basketball team is gearing up for another NCAA tournament run — recently returning to the top 25 in national polls, while the women’s basketball team completed a successful nonconference schedule and is off to a fast start in conference play.
SDSU students are admitted FREE for all regular season Aztec athletic events with a valid SDSU Student RED ID card.
The men’s team has been ranked in the top 25 more than any other California program since the start of the 2010-11 season. Catch the team in action Jan. 17 at Viejas Arena, when they face the University of Nevada-Reno. The first 1,000 SDSU students will receive free “The Show” flags.
The team returns to Viejas Jan. 23 and Feb. 3 for games against Wyoming and Utah State, respectively, then will host Colorado State and New Mexico during a critical two-game homestand Feb. 13 and 16. The Aztecs finish February with a Black History Month celebration Feb. 27 at Viejas during the game against San José State.
College of Education students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters will be recognized Jan. 20 when the Aztecs women’s team hosts College of Education Night during the game with San José State at Viejas Arena. Hang with your college and learn more about its academic programs and student organizations in tabling around the arena.
Other upcoming home games for the women’s team: Jan. 17 vs. UNLV, Jan. 27 vs. Boise State, Feb. 7 vs. New Mexico, Feb. 17 vs. Utah State and Feb. 21 vs. Air Force.
Registration Open For The SDSU Leadership Summit in March
Registration has launched for the SDSU Leadership Summit on March 9; the conference theme is "Leadership in Motion," capturing the essence of progress and adaptability in leadership. Leadership evolves, embraces change and navigates through diverse terrains — steering through challenges, pivoting swiftly and carving unique paths.
Together, student participants will uncover how to put leadership in motion. The dynamic program includes insights from university leaders, performance arts, skill-building workshops, networking opportunities with peers and alumni, and words of wisdom from keynote speakers. A.S. ELECTIONS APPS OPEN FOR CANDIDATES
If elected or appointed student office is your calling, now’s your time. Associated Students’ election season kicks off in earnest Jan. 26, when the application window opens. You can apply for elected and appointed positions until Feb. 16 and April 14, respectively.
Once you’ve applied, don’t forget to attend the A.S. elections presentation at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 31 inside of the Student Union Council Chambers where you’ll hear from current A.S. leaders about their experiences.

Student Success Fee
Are you interested in administering an academic project outside of your classroom experience or traveling to a conference, conducting research or bringing a speaker to campus?
Submit a proposal to request funding for a project to be implemented during the 2024/25 academic year.
The Student Success Fee application window opens Jan. 22, and the deadline to apply for an award is Mar. 5.

Monday Night Movies: Crazy Rich Asians
Monday Night Movies are back! We will be watching "Crazy Rich Asians" at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Union Theatre. The 2018 box office smash romantic comedy stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong and Michelle Yeoh. Movie snacks will be provided (while supplies last).
